FantasyJam presents Syboard Adventures overworld demo released Monday, April 14, 2008 Syboard Adventures (SyA) is an action role-playing game. As in most RPGs, you get to travel the world from an over-the-head view on what we affectionately call the overworld map. In this overworld demo, you can travel through a few of the SyA environments, talk to all the people who will be in your party in the real game, and even encounter the random battle. _______________________________________________________ |Developer's Note: Battle System Is BROKEN (always was) | |-------------------------------------------------------| | I hid away a secret way to exit the battle system, | | because battles are still a bit glitchy and just | | need more work. Press ~ on your keyboard to pause | | the battle and activate the console window. Then, | | type "worldmap" into the textfield and press SUBMIT. | |_______________________________________________________| There is an INN in Town 1, but it's useless at the moment. Your party has no way of getting hurt. You can lose HP, but sleeping serves no purpose, because you can go as far into the negatives as you want and not die, but try sleeping in the INN anyway, just for fun. (I included a little joke.) You can save your progress at savepoints. One such savepoint is sitting in Town 1, and you can use it whenever you want, but there is currently one other place to save your progress, and I've hidden it in a secret area. Find the savepoint and find the secret area. Trust me, it's worth your effort. You can find a summary of SyA's first chapter by opening the command console and typing "summary" or "storyplz" as your command and pressing either the SUBMIT button or the ENTER/RETURN key on your keyboard. Either work. _______________________________________________________ |Developer's Note: The Summary Is Part Of The Main Menu | |-------------------------------------------------------| | I simply made an extra part to the main menu, and I | | had no way to show it off, so I hid it in the console | | for anyone with a brain to find. Unfortunately, there | | is not a way back to the game, so once you go to the | | summary, you'll lose any unsaved progress you made in | | the actual game. You'll have to reset the game or you | | can reopen the game to continue playing. | |_______________________________________________________| You can open the command console whenever you're in battle by pressing ~ while unpaused. The command console is very useful as a testing tool or as a way to access the secrets of the game, including ways to cheat. _______________________________________________________ | OVERWORLD CONTROLS: | | key(s) | operation | |-----------+-------------------------------------------| | up | walk up. | | down | walk down. | | left | walk left. | | right | walk right. | |-----------+-------------------------------------------| | A, space | talk to characters or interact with | | | objects. | | enter | continue a conversation or close any | | | open windows (text boxes, shops, etc.)| | P | open the progress menu. | | Q | close the progress menu. | |-------------------------------------------------------| | COMBAT CONTROLS: | | key(s) | operation | |-----------+-------------------------------------------| | up | jump. | | down | duck. | | left | walk/run left. | | right | walk/run right. | | shift | enable running (hold it down). | |-----------+-------------------------------------------| | A | standard attack. | | S | special attack. | | D | defensive stance (hold it down). | | Q | open/close the pause menu. | | ~ | activate the cheat console. | |___________|___________________________________________| Quick note: The controls are easy to get comfortable with but if you need any reminders when to press the buttons, windows pop up in the bottom left corner when not in any battles nor already doing something. _______________________________________________________ | THINGS TO COME: | | I plan to add a player-owned house as a simple | | vacation home for when the player gets bored of the | | actual game. I will call it the "Celestial Abode." | | You can already find the Celestial Abode, but it's | | not completed, and it needs a lot of work. | |-------------------------------------------------------| | I will eventually have a working battle system | | for this game, but I'm not sure every battle will | | take place in the sideview, pixel art style. | |_______________________________________________________| VERSION HISTORY (documented for future reference): overworld demo - the final demo, everything from the old battle demo made its way into this one, but there is a ton more stuff jammed into this baby, including an overworld with talking NPCs and a savepoint system. Gravity was implemented into the battle system, and changing the gravity is as easy as typing "gravity 20" or "setgravity 20" through the new command console. Try typing "Where can I find the savepoint?" The first town has been created, but it isn't quite complete yet. That said, I have an actual game in this demo, meaning you can actually find entertainment. The overworld system in this demo is very tempermental when it comes to the transition from level to level. battle demo - created as a way to show off what the game would look like when it is finished. Poorly made. FPS demo - the first version of the game was a completely different story told through a first-person shooter. It wasn't realized, because we got bored of making it. It just wasn't fun to play, but it worked perfectly. ---------------------------------------------------------- http://www.syboard.net/adventures
